Senior first baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) slammed a 3-run homer to help Ohio Wesleyan to a 4-0 lead, but Misericordia rallied for a non-conference win over the Bishops on Wednesday in Port Charlotte, Fla.
Junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) opened the Ohio Wesleyan third with a single, and one out later, sophomore outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) singled Neff to third. Senior shortstop Colin Spranger (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) plated Neff with a sacrifice fly, and junior outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) followed with a double before Russo's 3-run shot made it 4-0.
The Cougars got an RBI double from Connor Maryniak in the fourth before putting up 8 runs in the fifth, collecting 5 hits and taking advantage of 4 Bishop errors. Santino Manganella's 2-run single was a timely hit in the uprising. Misericordia added 4 more runs in the eighth, with Manganella contributing a 2-run double.
Neff was 2-for-5 for Ohio Wesleyan. Senior righthander Gavin Pulliam (Franklin, Tenn.) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
Max Oliver, who blanked the Bishops on 2 hits over 5.2 innings of work, was the winner in relief for Misericordia.
