Sophomore outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) launched her first collegiate home run to put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard in a non-conference loss to Mount St. Joseph on Wednesday in Clermont, Fla.
In Wednesday's second game, freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory) scored to stake the Bishops to a 1-0 lead, but Mitchell rallied to take the win.
Mount St. Joseph took the lead with RBI singles by Macy Cornelius and Sara Kardos in the first inning and added a 2-run double by Kelsi Stevenson in the second inning. The Lions erupted for 10 runs in the third, highlighted by a 2-run single by Ali Lang and a 2-run double by Kaci Finchum.
Moore led off the bottom of the fifth with a home run.
Freshman righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
Hailey Johnson was the winning pitcher in relief for Mount St. Joseph.
In the fourth inning of Wednesday's second game, Tuttle lined a one-out single and sophomore first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) followed with a double. Freshman catcher Lauren Kunzler (Lancaster) lofted a fly ball to center, and Tuttle scored on Mariner centerfielder Jenna Bennett's throwing error on the play.
Mitchell countered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, collecting RBI singles from Sarah Aviles, Emma LaBreck, and Katelyn Lipsky. The Mariners added a pair of runs in the sixth as LaBreck contributed another RBI single.
Anspach was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan. Sophomore lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
Emily Reynolds worked the complete game for Mitchell, finishing with a 5-hitter.
