Freshman midfielder Amara Carlson (Dublin/Coffman), sophomore attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes), and junior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) each scored twice as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Greensboro, 9-1, during the first quarter on the way to a non-conference win on Wednesday in Greensboro, N.C.
The win was the Bishops' fourth straight, Ohio Wesleyan's longest season-opening winning streak since the 2007 Bishops also started 4-0.
Klabus scored in the opening minute of the game, and Egan and Carlson followed with goals just under a minute apart for a 3-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead. Each scored another goal as the Bishops increased the lead to 6-0 midway through the period.
The Pride got on the scoreboard with a goal by Rosanna Espinosa-Ponce, but the Bishops got scores from sophomore attacker Anna Nacci (Wooster), sophomore midfielder Sophia DelGallo (Braintree, Mass.), and junior midfielder Evie Williams (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown School) to close out the first quarter.
Williams led the Bishops with 5 goals and an assist, while Klabus finished with 3 goals. Freshman Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) was credited with 3 saves.
Espinosa-Ponce and Selena Najera scored for Greensboro. Sada Hollowell made 14 saves for the Pride.
