Kenyon Defeats Women's Lacrosse

Sophomore attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) scored a free-position goal to tie the game at 4, but Kenyon took the lead with a 4-0 run and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win on Wednesday at Selby Stadium.

A pair of goals from Maddie Garner set Ohio Wesleyan down, 3-0, but before the first quarter ended, the Bishops were able to get their first goal of the match from freshman midfielder Sammy Johnson (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge).  Sophomore attacker Sophia Staples-Roy (Hopkinton, N.H.) and senior attacker Taylor Floyd (Wilton, Conn.) were able to add one each to the tally, making it even going into the second quarter of play.

After going down a goal in the second quarter on a goal by Julia Losey, Klabus was able to even the score at 4 with 6:25 left in the first half, but Kenyon was able to get another when Losey scored with 4:44 remaining.

With 3:22 left in the third quarter, Garner scored again for Kenyon, sending them up 6-4. The Ladies went on to score 2 back-to-back goals in the beginning of the fourth quarter.

The Bishops got another goal by freshman midfielder Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) to make the score 8-5, but it was not enough.

Freshman goalkeeper Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) had 14 saves on the night, 5 of those coming in the final quarter to keep the Bishops close. Klabus led Ohio Wesleyan with a goal and an assist.

Kenyon outshot the Battling Bishops, 28-18, allowing only 4 shots during the second half.  Garner had 3 goals for the Ladies and Nola Garand made 5 saves for Kenyon.
