Denison 13, Ohio Wesleyan 8
Senior midfielder Jack Damon (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored to give Ohio Wesleyan a 6-5 third-quarter lead, but Denison took the lead with a 3-0 run and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win on Friday at Selby Stadium.
The Bishops had taken an early 2-0 lead on scores by senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) and freshman midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), but the visitors evened the game with goals by Clyde Bresnahan and Luke Fisher before going up, 3-2, on a Nate Kay goal in the opening minute of the second quarter.
Ohio Wesleyan answered with goals by junior midfielder Brody Leinson (Littleton, Mass.) and freshman midfielder Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School), and after Cameron Bowdy tied the game at 4, Hasenberg scored with 1:11 left in the first half to give the Bishops the lead at the break.
Denison's Will Kenney scored just over a minute into the third quarter, but Damon responded with a goal only 55 seconds later for a 6-5 Ohio Wesleyan advantage.
The Big Red closed out the third quarter with scores by Bresnahan and Gavin Pappas, and Bowdy added a goal early in the fourth quarter for an 8-6 Denison lead.
Senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) brought the Bishops within 8-7 at the 12:20 mark, but Denison scored the next 4 goals, with Kay tallying the last 2, to stretch the lead to 12-7 midway through the final period.
Hasenberg led the Bishops with 2 goals and an assist, while Wiseman finished with 2 goals. Freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) recorded 16 saves.
Bowdy collected 3 goals and an assist for Denison. Archer Darrach made 5 saves for the Big Red.
