Ohio Wesleyan 5, Oberlin 2

Sophomore lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) threw a pair of complete-game wins, freshman outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) tied a school record, and sophomore second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) smashed a home run during a 4-for-4 day to help Ohio Wesleyan complete a sweep of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader against Oberlin on Friday in Oberlin.

The Bishops jumped to an early lead in the first game, opening the game with back-to-back doubles by Panozzo and sophomore third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark).  Freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) lofted a sacrifice fly to score Panozzo, and Cegledy lashed a double to chase home Back.  Sophomore infielder Sydney Hoover (Utica) singled in a run in the third, Tuttle singled home a run in the fourth, and Cegledy had another RBI double in the sixth to increase the Ohio Wesleyan lead to 6-0.

Oberlin rallied in the bottom of the sixth, collecting 3 hits and taking advantage of 3 Bishop errors to push across 3 runs, but Chittum got out of the inning and retired the Yeowomen in order in the seventh to nail down the win.

Panozzo went 4-for-4, tying the school single-game record for hits, and scored twice.  Tuttle and Cegledy each went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI.  Chittum scattered 10 hits, striking out 4 and walking 2.

Katie Austin was the starting and losing pitcher for Oberlin.

Back singled in a run to put the Bishops on the scoreboard in the third inning of the nightcap, but Loren Carter's RBI double in the bottom of the inning knotted the game at 1.

That pattern repeated in the fourth when Cegledy led off the inning with a solo shot, but the Yeowomen manufactured a run on an error, a single, a sacrifice, and an infield out.

The Bishops went ahead to stay in the fifth as freshman infielder Reese King (Sterling/Creston Norwayne) led off with a single, sophomore infielder Tori Garey (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) drew a walk, and the runners moved to second and third on a sacrifice.  One out later, King scored on a passed ball before Tuttle lined a double to score Garey.  Cegledy followed with an infield single, with Tuttle scoring on the play.

Oberlin threatened in the bottom of the inning, with Cat Moruzzi lining a one-out single before Kathryn Beerman was hit by a pitch with 2 down to bring the tying run to the plate, but Chittum got Lalli Lopez to bounce into a fielder's choice to end the inning, and the contest was called because of darkness shortly thereafter.

Cegledy turned in another 2-for-2 performance at the plate, also driving in 2 runs for the second straight game.  Chittum allowed but 5 hits, striking out 3 and walking 2.

Calliope Lissak was the starting and losing pitcher for Oberlin.
