Ohio Wesleyan 11, Kenyon 6
Sophomore third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) crushed a 2-run double to tie the game and sophomore second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) knocked in the go-ahead run during a 7-run seventh inning that lifted Ohio Wesleyan over Kenyon in the nightcap of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday in Gambier.
In the opener, sophomore infielder Sydney Hoover (Utica) smashed a 2-run double to put the Bishops on the scoreboard, but Kenyon held off the comeback to take a win.
The Bishops trailed, 6-4, going into the seventh inning of the nightcap when freshman outfielder Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) led off with a single. One out later, sophomore catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) kept the inning going with a single, and freshman outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) followed with a single to fill the sacks. Back then blasted a double to right center, scoring Perkins and Bias to tie the game. After a walk to freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) reloaded the bases, Cegledy's grounder was misplayed by Kenyon shortstop Maddie Friday, allowing Panozzo to score the go-ahead run. Hoover then grounded to short, and 3 Kenyon errors on the play cleared the bases, with Hoover checking in at second. Perkins followed with a single down the rightfield line to score the final run of the inning.
Kenyon had taken an early lead on a 2-run double by Bella Albrecht, but the Bishops knotted the game at 2 on RBI singles by Tuttle and Perkins in the third, then got RBI singles from Tuttle in the fourth and sophomore first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) in the fifth.
The Ladies scored 4 times in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game on a 2-run single by Olivia Hurley and taking the lead on Grace Finn's 2-run double.
Perkins went 4-for-5, tying the school single-game record for hits, and knocked in 2 runs. Back and Tuttle each went 2-for-3. Freshman righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) picked up the win with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
