Sophomore first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) crushed a bases-loaded triple to highlight a 4-run fourth inning that helped Ohio Wesleyan to a win over Hiram in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Margaret Sagan Field.

In the nightcap, sophomore second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) singled home a run to give the Bishops an early lead, but Hiram rallied for a win to salvage a split of the twinbill.

The Bishops took the lead in the first inning of the opener as freshman outfielder Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) lined a one-out double and moved to third on a bunt single by sophomore catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic).  After Bias stole second, Perkins scored on a passed ball, with Bias moving to third and coming in to score on an error by Terrier second baseman Leah Valdez.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the fourth with a walk to sophomore outfielder Brooke Hoffman (Oregon/Toledo St. Ursula) and a single by freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School).  Two outs later, Bias' fly ball to center was dropped by Hiram's Melissa Galindo, scoring Hoffman.  Cegledy was hit by a pitch to fill the bases, and Anspach promptly emptied them with a drive to the gap in right center.

Darian Kanno singled home a run for Hiram in the fifth, but the Bishops got that run back on Cegledy's RBI double.

Bias was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored, while Perkins went 2-for-4 in the game.  Sophomore lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan.

Kanno was the starting and losing pitcher for Hiram.

In the nightcap, Ohio Wesleyan again took the lead in the first inning.  With one out, Perkins was hit by a pitch, moved to second on Bias' sacrifice, and scored on Cegledy's RBI single.

The Terriers loaded the bases with none out in the fifth when Trinity Meza doubled, and Leah Valdez and Galindo reached on infield singles.  Kanno lofted a fly ball to center to score Meza with the tying run, and Abriana Schwartz singled home Valdez with the go-ahead run.  Giselle Bahena added a 2-run double later in the inning.

The Bishops got their leadoff hitters on in the sixth and seventh frames on a single by Perkins and a double by sophomore shortstop Sydney Hoover (Utica), but Hiram pitcher Jeskari Rodriguez got out of both innings unscathed.

Perkins was 2-for-2 for Ohio Wesleyan, but was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Rodriguez finished with a 4-hitter to record the win for Hiram.
