Softball Splits at Wilmington

Sophomore outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) and sophomore second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) drove in runs to help Ohio Wesleyan build a 4-0 lead. and the Bishops went on to a win over Wilmington in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday in Wilmington.

In the nightcap, the Quakers got 2-run doubles from Kylah Morrison and Judaea Wilson during a 4-run sixth inning that broke open a close game and salvaged a split of the twinbill.

Sophomore first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) singled to lead off the second inning of the opener and moved to second on an infield out before freshman outfielder Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) and Moore followed with singles to plate Anspach.  Perkins later scored on a passed ball for a 2-0 Bishop lead.

Singles by freshman outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen), sophomore third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark), and freshman infielder Madison King (Mogadore) loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth, with Panozzo eventually scoring on a passed ball.  The Bishops made it 4-0 in the seventh as Back drew a one-out walk, stole second, took third on an infield out, and scored on Cegledy's single.

Meanwhile, sophomore lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) was in command, blanking Wilmington on 4 hits through the first 6.0 innings before allowing a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Cegledy was 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Chittum pitched the complete game for the Bishops.

The Quakers took the lead in the third inning of the nightcap on Lindsey Carter's sacrifice fly, and made it 2-0 in the fifth as Logann Julian scored on Moore's error.

Ohio Wesleyan narrowed the deficit to 2-1 in the sixth as freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on Aspach's single, but the Quakers collected 4 hits in the bottom of the inning, including the 2-run doubles by Morrison and Wilson.

Anspach was 2-for-3 and Tuttle went 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Freshman righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) pitched the complete game for the Bishops.

Alexis Stringfellow worked the first 6.0 innings to collect the win for Wilmington.
