Senior attacker Luke Swaddling (Strongsville/Lakewood St. Edward) scored 2 goals and set up the third during a game-opening 3-0 run that started Ohio Wesleyan on its way to a North Coast Athletic Conference decision over Oberlin on Saturday in Oberlin.
Swaddling put the Bishops on the scoreboard at the 13:10 mark of the opening quarter, then fed senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) for a score before ringing up another goal midway through the first period.
Michael Muldoon brought the Yeomen within 3-1 shortly thereafter, and the teams traded goals to finish the first quarter at 4-2.
Senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) made it 5-2 early in the second quarter, then tallied 2 goals during the final minute of the period to increase the Bishop lead to 9-4 at the intermission.
Sophomore midflelder Henry Little (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla Country Day), Anton, Swaddling, and Hasenberg had goals during the third quarter to help Ohio Wesleyan to a 13-6 lead, but Oberlin remained within striking distance as Niko Maheras and Tom Decker scored during the final minute of the quarter to make it 13-8 heading into the fourth.
Oberlin closed to within 14-10 on scores by Maheras and Connor Quinn, but the Bishops put the game away with goals from freshman midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) and Hasenberg for the 16-10 final.
Hasenberg finished with 6 goals and an assist, and Swaddling collected 3 goals and 5 assists. Freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) recorded 15 saves.
Ryan Blasberg led Oberlin with 3 goals. Eugene Kang stopped 15 shots in the Yeomen crease.
