Junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) and sophomore first baseman Dillon Ysseldyke (Hilliard/Bradley) each drove in a pair of runs to help Ohio Wesleyan to a 7-1 lead, but Otterbein rallied for a non-conference win on Sunday at Littick Field.
The Bishops took the lead in the first inning on a double by senior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and a single by Neff, then added another run on a bases-loaded infield out by freshman outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome).
Ohio Wesleyan scored 4 times without the benefit of a hit in the second inning, filling the sacks on 3 consecutive hit batters before Graham drew a bases-loaded walk, Neff plated a run with a fielder's choice with another run scoring on a throwing error by Cardinal third baseman Brayden Carter, and Ysseldyke lofted a sacrifice fly.
Otterbein got on the scoreboard on Luke Barber's sacrifice fly in the third, but the Bishops got the run back in the bottom of the inning on Ysseldyke's RBI single.
The Cardinals erupted for 10 runs in the fifth, collecting 7 hits in the inning, including a 2-run double by Carter and a 2-run single by Zak Repar.
Senior third baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) singled home a run in the bottom of the inning, but Otterbein scored 3 times in the sixth, with Noah Sprowls lining a 2-run double; added 2 runs in the seventh with the help of Barber's RBI single, and got a 2-run single by Barber during a 3-run eighth.
Graham was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored for Ohio Wesleyan, while Russo and Neff each went 2-for-5. Sophomore righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
Matthew Weaver was credited with the win in relief for Otterbein.
