Senior attacker Will Anton (Madison, N.J.) tallied 4 goals during the first quarter to help Ohio Wesleyan to a 10-0 lead, and the Bishops went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Wabash on Tuesday in Crawfordsville, Ind.
Anton put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard just 34 seconds into the game, courtesy of a feed from senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola), and senior midfielder Conor McGeeney (Loveland/Archbishop Moeller) and freshman midfielder Mike Ostertag (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) followed with goals less than a minute apart. Hasenberg added 2 scores midway through the period, and the Bishops closed out the quarter with 4 goals during the final 2 minutes, with Anton scoring twice, Ostertag once, and senior defenseman Miles Rathell (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) finishing off the burst with a goal in the final seconds.
Freshman attacker Carson Geier (Milford) and junior attacker Vincent Leonardi (Hicksville, N.Y.) each scored twice during the second quarter to help the Bishops extend the margin to 17-0 at the half.
Anthony Nguyen opened the second-half scoring with a man-down goal for Wabash, but Geier notched 2 more goals during the quarter as Ohio Wesleyan outscored the hosts, 5-3.
Leonardi and freshman attacker Finn Maguire (Dedham, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) each scored twice during the fourth quarter.
Leonardi finished with 5 goals and 3 assists, Anton recorded 4 goals and 2 assists, and Geier collected 4 goals and an assist. Freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) had 2 saves during the first quarter, junior Carl Mazabras (New Canaan, Conn.) was in goal during the second quarter, sophomore Paddy Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) and junior George Whitney (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy) were in the crease during the third quarter, with Whitney making a save, and freshman Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) made 1 save during the fourth quarter.
Nguyen led Wabash with 2 goals. Stephen Krajcir was credited with 16 saves in the Little Giant crease.
