Muskingum 16, Ohio Wesleyan 2

Senior first baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) drove in a pair of runs for Ohio Wesleyan, but Muskingum built an early lead and went on to a non-conference win on Sunday in New Concord.

The Muskies erupted for 7 runs in the first inning, with Dominic Gorence lining a bases-clearing double and Nate Keiser capping the uprising with a 3-run homer.

Ohio Wesleyan got on the scoreboard in the second, stringing together singles by senior shortstop Colin Spranger (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), sophomore first baseman Dillon Ysseldyke (Hilliard/Bradley), and Russo, but Muskingum countered with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by Gavin Hawk's 2-run single.

The Bishops assembled another run in the eighth as sophomore shortstop Blake Farley (Hudson) led off with a single, freshman third baseman Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius) forced Farley at second, sophomore catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) drew a walk, and Russo singled home Brazytis.

Russo was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI for Ohio Wesleyan.  Senior righthander Charlie Neel (Shaker Heights) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.

Jaxon Rinkes pitched the first 5.0 innings to notch the win for Muskingum.
