Allegheny 4, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Allegheny 8, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Sophomore first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) delivered a pair of hits, but Allegheny swept a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader from Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday at Margaret Sagan Field.
Sophomore lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) and Allegheny's Aleya Belardinelli matched up in a pitching duel in the opener. Chittum faced the minimum through the first 3.0 innings, allowing only a first-inning single to Paige Ziggas but seeing Ziggas erased on a double play. Belardinelli matched Chittum with 3.0 shutout innings, working out of the third inning unscathed after yielding singles to freshman shortstop McKenna Tuttle (Richmond, Ky./Model Laboratory School) and sophomore third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark).
Allegheny took the lead in the fourth, with Ziggas beating out an infield single, stealing second, moving to third on a passed ball, and scoring on Hadley Horensky's double. Horensky would come around to score on a double by Joplin Osgood, and later singled home 2 runs in the top of the seventh to provide some insurance for the Gators.
Chittum pitched the complete game, allowing 8 hits while striking out 4 and walking 2.
Belardinelli finished with a 4-hit shutout, striking out 4 and walking none.
In the nightcap, Allegheny went ahead in the top of the second when Sofia Genareo doubled with one out, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Olivia Devries.
Ohio Wesleyan threatened in each of the next 3 innings, with sophomore second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) getting to second base in the second, sophomore catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) advancing to second base in the third, and Anspach leading off the fourth with a double, but each runner was left at second.
The Gators scored 4 times in the fifth on a 2-run single by Horensky and a 2-run homer from Cameron Long, and added a pair of runs in the seventh.
Freshman righthander Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
Samantha Dzierba pitched a 5-hit shutout for the Gators.
