Sophomore attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) contributed a goal and an assist as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Wittenberg, 5-0, during the first quarter on the way to a North Coast Athletic Conference win over the Tigers on Saturday in Springfield.
Senior attacker Taylor Floyd (Wilton, Conn.) converted a free-position shot just 47 seconds into the game to put the Bishops on the scoreboard.
Klabus and freshman midfielder Carolyn Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) followed with goals, and sophomore midfielder Sophia DelGallo (Braintree, Mass.) and freshman attacker Casey Conklin (Marcellus, N.Y.) added scores during the final minutes of the quarter to make it 5-0.
Wittenberg opened the second quarter with a goal by Jessica Flick, but Ohio Wesleyan assembled another 5-0 run, this time getting 2 goals apiece from Klabus and junior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.), to increase the lead to 10-1.
DelGallo and junior midfielder Caroline Kiker (Shaker Heights) added goals during the final minute of the half to help Ohio Wesleyan to a 12-2 lead at the intermission..
Klabus collected 3 goals and 3 assists, and DelGallo also scored 3 goals for Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman goalkeeper Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) made 14 saves during the first 53-plus minutes, and sophomore Natalie Coontz (Dublin/Jerome) made 1 save during the fourth quarter.
Flick scored 3 goals for Wittenberg. Gabrielle Weckerley and Sidney Sheridan combined for 11 saves for the Tigers.
