Senior midfielder Connor McGeeney (Loveland/Archbishop Moeller) scored 3 first-quarter goals as Ohio Wesleyan outscored Allegheny, 4-1, during the first quarter and went on to a North Coast Athletic Conference victory in the first-ever meeting between the teams on Saturday in Meadville, Pa.
McGeeney opened the day's scoring just over a minute into the action, and freshman midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) followed with a goal at the 10:07 mark before McGeeney scored again less than a minute later.
Colin Deubell put the Gators on the scoreboard midway through the quarter, but McGeeney countered with a goal with 6:31 remaining.
Benjamin Gallegos brought the hosts within 4-2 early in the second quarter, only to see the Bishops close out the half with 4 straight goals, with senior attacker Henry Hasenberg (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) contributing a goal and an assist during that run.
Hasenberg added 2 goals to kick off the third-quarter scoring, then rang up 3 straight goals to close out the fourth period.
Hasenberg led the Bishops with 6 goals and 2 assists, while McGeeney finished with 3 goals. Freshman MacGuire Scholl (Upper Arlington) was credited with 4 saves.
Deubell had 2 goals and an assist for Allegheny. Eric Mirkovich recorded 18 saves for the Gators.
