Sophomore first baseman Dillon Ysseldyke (Hilliard/Bradley) singled home a run to give Ohio Wesleyan the lead, but DePauw rallied for a win in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday in Greencastle, Ind.
In the nightcap, junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) drove in a run as the Bishops tied the game at 3, but the Tigers answered with 6 runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to complete the sweep.
The Bishops took the lead in the second inning of the opener when freshman outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) was hit by a pitch with one out. One out later, Stoner stole second and scored on Ysseldyke's single.
DePauw evened the game in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk to Danny Sheehan and took the lead on Sheehan's RBI single in the eighth.
Senior righthander Gavin Pulliam (Franklin, Tenn.) was charged with the loss in relief for Ohio Wesleyan. Tiger pitcher Michael Vallone finished with a 2-hitter, striking out 9 and walking 2.
The Tigers took the lead in the nightcap on Brian May's 2-run double in the first inning.
Sophomore outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) launched a solo homer in the top of the second to bring the Bishops within 2-1, but DePauw responded with an RBI double by Nick Nelson in the bottom of the inning.
Sophomore catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) led off the top of the fifth with a single and came around to score on a DePauw error after a single by senior third baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior). After a double by senior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson), Neff lofted a sacrifice fly to score Russo with the tying run.
DePauw pushed across 6 runs in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a 2-run double by Sheehan and a 2-run single by Kyle Boyer, and made it 10-3 on a May sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Ohio Wesleyan rallied in the seventh, with Stoner ripping an RBI single and Padilla plating a run with an infield out, and added 3 more runs in the eighth with the help of RBI doubles by Graham and Neff to narrow the margin to 10-8.
The Tigers got a solo shot from Kyle Callahan during a 2-run eighth frame that allowed them to withstand Graham's 2-run single in the top of the ninth.
Graham was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI, while Neff was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Russo went 2-for-5. Freshman righthander Josh Ferreira (Raynham, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey (R.I.)) was charged with the loss in relief.
Joe Runnells pitched the first 6.0 innings to record the win for DePauw.
