at NCAA Division III championship
Junior Peyton Howell (Canton/GlenOak) and senior Ari McPheters (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) will represent Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III championship meet, to be hosted by the University of Mount Union and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission at Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio, it was announced by the NCAA.
Howell will compete in the high jump, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 27, while McPheters will compete in the preliminaries of the shot put, scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday, May 27.
Howell is tied for the No. 4 seed with a height of 5-7¼, that coming at the Vertklasse Meeting meet at High Point University on April 2. Howell won the North Coast Athletic Conference title in the high jump at the NCAC championship on May 6. This will be Howell's first NCAA Division III outdoor championship competition. Howell won All-America honors in the high jump with a third-place finish at the NCAA Division III indoor championship meet on March 12.
McPheters is seeded 17th in the shot put with a throw of 44-11½, that coming at the Mount Union Last Chance meet on Thursday. McPheters won All-NCAC recognition at the NCAC championship meet on May 5, finishing second in the shot put. This will be McPheters' first NCAA Division III championship appearance.
The finals of the shot put will be contested after the conclusion of the preliminaries, with the top finishers in the preliminaries advancing to the finals.
