Senior outfielder Davis Graham (Canton/Massillon Jackson) knocked in a run to put Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard, but Wittenberg went on to a win in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday at Littick Field.
In the nightcap, freshman outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) put the Bishops on the scoreboard, but the Tigers went on to complete the sweep.
Wittenberg took the lead in the first game on a double by Gabe Stacy and a single by Chase Whisner in the third inning, and Tigers added 3 runs in the fifth, highlighted by Matt Moore's 2- run single.
The Bishops answered in the bottom of the inning as senior third baseman Luigi Russo (Kelowna, B.C./Rutland Senior) was hit by a pitch to open the inning and Graham ripped a double down the leftfield line to plate Russo. Graham later came in to score on an error by Tiger shortstop Whisner.
The Tigers scored twice in the sixth on an RBI triple by Luke Thomas and a Stacy sacrifice fly, and tacked on 3 runs in the seventh, with Dylan Jackson and Jared Burick knocking in runs.
Graham went 3-for-5 and Stoner was 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman righthander Josh Ferreira (Raynham, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey (R.I.)) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
Charlie Schafer, who closed the game with 4.1 innings of scoreless relief, was credited with the win for Wittenberg.
Wittenberg jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap on an RBI double by Conor O'Malley and a run-scoring single by Thomas, and the Tigers added runs in each of the next 3 frames to increase the lead to 5-0.
Senior catcher Ralph Good (Marble, Colo./Roaring Fork) reached second on a throwing error by Tiger second baseman Thomas to open the fifth inning. Graham followed with a single and junior second baseman D.J. Neff (Grove City) walked to load the bases before an infield single by Stoner scored Good.
The Tigers added a run in the sixth on Whisner's RBI single and scored twice in the eighth.
Graham was 2-for-3 and Stoner went 2-for-4 for the Bishops. Senior righthander Gavin Pulliam (Franklin, Tenn.) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
Austin Luther was credited with the win for Wittenberg.
