Ohio Wesleyan 76, Kenyon 44

Junior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) scored 11 points during the second quarter to help Ohio Wesleyan open up a double-digit lead, and the Bishops pulled away with the help of a school-record-setting performance during the third quarter of a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Kenyon on Wednesday in Gambier.

The Owls took the lead on hoops by Claudia Cooke and Katie Orefice during the first minute of play, and Cooke added 2 more buckets as Kenyon went up, 8-2.

Ohio Wesleyan answered with a 13-0 run that included 3-pointers from junior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) and freshman guard Graci Semptimphelter (Franklin, Tenn./Battle Ground Academy), and freshman guard Mia Guscoff (Canton/Massillon Perry) closed out the first-quarter scoring with a 3-pointer that gave the Bishops an 18-11 lead.

Sophomore post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes) and Schipfer scored early in the second quarter to push the lead into double figures, and Schipfer would add 9 more points during the period, including a 3-point play that extended the Bishop lead back to 10 before Semptimphelter hit a jumper from the lane for a 38-26 count at the half.

Denison connected twice from downtown during a 10-0 Bishop run to open the third quarter, and Ohio Wesleyan would outscore Kenyon, 17-4, during the period.  The 4 points allowed by the Bishops set a school record for fewest points allowed in a third quarter, breaking the mark of 6 set against Wooster on Feb. 11, 2017.

Schipfer led the Bishops with 21 points and shared the team lead with 9 rebounds.  Denison added 20 points, Griner scored 12 points and shared the team lead with 9 boards, Semptimphelter finished with 10 points, and junior guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson) collected a team-high 6 assists.
