Ohio Wesleyan 5, Washington & Jefferson 0
Freshman midfielder Grace Ammon (Southborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) set up Ohio Wesleyan's first 2 goals, and freshman forward Mattison Hyland (Broadheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) added 2 scores as the Bishops remained unbeaten with a North Coast Athletic Conference win over Washington & Jefferson on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
The teams played a scoreless first quarter, combining for 4 shots during the period, before the Bishops took the lead.
Ammon sent the ball into the circle to junior forward Colleen McMenamin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Regional), whose shot deflected off a Washington & Jefferson defender's stick and into the cage midway through the period.
Ammon set up another goal early in the third period. The Bishops had earned a penalty corner, and Ammon sent the ball over to sophomore midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville). A President defender charged out to challenge Slucher's shot, and the ball glanced off the defender's stick and arched up and into the cage.
Senior midfielder Megan Knee (San Diego, Calif./Mount Carmel) made it 3-0 during the final minute of the third quarter when her shot after a penalty corner rolled past President keeper Anastasia Godat and into the cage.
Hyland took over from there, first deflecting a shot by sophomore forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) into the cage in the 48th minute, then knocking home the rebound of a save by Godat in the 51st minute.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Washington & Jefferson, 25-5. Junior Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior Brynn Schlesinger (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) combined on the shutout.
