Senior midfielder Megan Knee (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel) put top-seeded Ohio Wesleyan on the scoreboard and the Bishops turned in their 14th consecutive shutout to advance to the championship game of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament with a win over fourth-seeded Kenyon in an NCAC tournament semifinal on Wednesday at Selby Stadium.
Ohio Wesleyan will face second-seeded Denison, a 2-0 winner over DePauw on Wednesday, in the tournament title tilt at noon on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
Knee gave the Bishops the lead in the 11th minute, settling a failed clear attempt and firing a shot from 12 yards out.
Sophomore forward Emma Wright (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) added a score late in the second quarter with a shot from the right side.
The Bishops put the game away in the third quarter, tying a school record with 3 goals in the period. Sophomore midfielder Avery Slucher (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) slipped a shot past Owl goalkeeper Megan Lydon in the 32nd minute, sophomore forward Olivia Danley (Del Rio, Texas/Independence (Va.)) scored on a putback after a Kenyon defensive save in the 36th minute, and junior forward Colleen McMenamin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Regional) put a low shot into the cage in the 44th minute. Senior midfielder Lauren Kunzler (Lancaster) concluded the evening's scoring with a goal early in the fourth period.
Meanwhile, the Bishop defense did not allow the Owls a shot until the final 18 seconds of the game, after Kenyon had earned its only penalty corner of the contest.
Ohio Wesleyan outshot Kenyon, 33-2. Junior Meg McCarthy (Trumbull, Conn.) and junior Brynn Schlesinger (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) combined on the shutout, with Schlesinger making 1 save.
