11th of 40 at NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship
Freshman Zoe Ward (Columbus/Worthington Christian) won all-region honors in leading Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional championship meet, hosted by John Carroll University on Saturday at the Silver Creek Cross Country Course in Norton, Ohio.
Calvin and DePauw each finished the meet with 90 points, with Calvin winning the regional title on the tiebreaker, which compares the finishes of each team's runners. Calvin's top 3 runners finished ahead of DePauw's top 3 runners to give the Knights the edge. Hope was third in the team standings with 113 points, followed by John Carroll (119), Centre (194), Wittenberg (205), Ohio Northern (219), Case Reserve (221), and Mount Union (240). Trine rounded out the top 10 teams with a score of 275, followed by Ohio Wesleyan (305), Kalamazoo (331), Oberlin (366), Allegheny (384), Baldwin Wallace (423), St. Mary's (508), Otterbein (519), Berea (532), and Hanover (587). Wooster finished off the top 20 teams with 652 points, followed by Kenyon (674), Franciscan (680), Albion (688), Rose-Hulman (692), Heidelberg (704), Denison (745), Alma (786), Transylvania (792), and Adrian (836). Muskingum completed the top 30 teams with a total of 854, followed by Manchester (866), Franklin (902), Olivet (908), Anderson (952), Capital (973), Wilmington (988), Bluffton (1083), Marietta (1115), Hiram (1185), and Spalding (1299). The 11th-place finish was the best for Ohio Wesleyan since 2015, when the Bishops posted the second of 2 straight ninth-place finishes.
Meghan Owens of Centre won the race by a heartbeat over Lauren Iagnemma of Case Reserve. Owens' official time was 20:43.8 for the 6000-meter course, with Iagnemma finishing in 20:43.9.
Ward finished 26th overall in 21:35.9. The top 35 individuals receive all-region recognition.
Freshman Elsa Hoam (Fredericktown) was 43rd in 22:06.8, sophomore McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local) placed 59th in 22:27.4, freshman Sophie Cotts (Granville) placed 82nd in 22:47.2, and freshman Allison Dietz (Newark) closed out the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 95th-place finish in 23:03.5.
Junior Eleanor Luttman (Farmington Hills, Mich./Farmington) was 110th in 23:21.4 and freshman Brianna Montgomery (Gibsonburg) placed 127th in 23:33.7.
