Fast Start Sends Women's Basketball Past Lake Erie

Senior guard Lauren Denison (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) scored 8 of her season-high 24 points during the first quarter as Ohio Wesleyan built a 20-point lead and went on to a non-conference win over Lake Erie on Tuesday at Branch Rickey Arena.

Denison opened the evening's scoring with a 3-pointer, kicking off an 18-3 Ohio Wesleyan run that included a pair of hoops by junior post Alyssa Griner (Delaware/Hayes), back-to-back lay-ins from junior post Karlee Ross (Beverly/Fort Frye), a 3-pointer by senior point guard Elizabeth Homan (Cincinnati/Anderson), and a bucket and a pair of free throws from freshman post Macy Miller (Marysville/Fairbanks).  Senior guard Kasey Schipfer (Mechanicsburg) added a basket and Denison drilled another 3-pointer and sank a pair of free throws for a 25-5 Bishop lead during the final minute of the period.

Kylie Maxwell opened the second quarter with a jumper from the lane to bring the Storm within 27-10, but Schipfer converted a 3-point play on the Bishops' next possession to push the lead back to 20 points.

Denison opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer, and added 2 more trifectas during the period as the Bishops pulled away.

Along with the season-high 24 points, Denison shared the team lead with 4 assists.  Schipfer finished with 18 points and shared the team lead with 8 boards, Ross shared the team lead with 8 rebounds, and Homan shared the team lead with 4 assists.
