Sophomore midfielder Brady Hunt (Maineville/Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) scored 2 goals as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 5-0 run and went on to a non-conference win over Westminster on Saturday at Selby Stadium.
Hunt put the Bishops on the scoreboard with a goal just under 2 minutes into the game, and freshman midfielder Dennis Van Der Wal (San Anselmo, Calif./Redwood) added a goal with 10:21 left in the period.
Ohio Wesleyan then struck for 3 goals in less than a minute, with Hunt ringing up his second of the game, senior midfielder Jared Friesen (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Trabuco Hills) following with a score, and freshman midfielder Noah Citek (Long Beach, Calif./St. John Bosco) winning the ensuing face-off and driving for a goal that made it 5-0 with 8:25 to play in the period.
The Titans countered with scores from Jonas Clark and Hamish Mathwin to close within 5-2, but Ohio Wesleyan answered with 3 straight scores, with sophomore midfielder Joey Wiseman (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) closing out the first-quarter scoring with a goal and junior midfielder Cooper Braet (Columbus/Upper Arlington) and freshman midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) opening the second quarter with goals for an 8-2 Bishop lead.
Wiseman, sophomore attacker Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School), and Van Der Wal added second-quarter scores as Ohio Wesleyan took an 11-3 lead at the intermission, and Amacher had a goal and an assist during a 3-0 third-quarter run that extended the margin to 14-4.
Hunt led the Bishops with 3 goals. Smith finished with 2 goals and 2 assists, and Amacher added 2 goals and an assist. Sophomore Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) made 3 saves during the first half and junior Paddy Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) stopped 3 shots during the second half.
