Byfield-Ramirez Wins NCAC Weight Throw Crown

Senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson) won a North Coast Athletic Conference title and set a school record in leading Ohio Wesleyan during the second day of the North Coast Athletic Conference championship meet, hosted by DePauw University on Saturday in Greencastle, Ind.

Wabash won the meet with 157 points to 132 for Denison.  Wooster and DePauw tied for third place with 99 points apiece, followed by Wittenberg (92), Oberlin (60), Ohio Wesleyan (31), and Kenyon (29).

Byfield-Ramirez won the weight throw with a mark of 56-6, breaking the school record of 56-0 set by Kyle Faris in 2010.

Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Chinedu Melenu (Bowie, Md.), who finished fifth in the triple jump; sophomore Charley Morris (Denver, Colo./Denver School of the Arts), who was sixth in the 400-meter dash; and sophomore Wes Horton (Columbus/Thomas Worthington), who placed seventh in the 800-meter run.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of Morris, senior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), freshman Jake Marzulli (Medina), and sophomore Trey Theobald (Archbold) finished fifth, and the 800-meter relay team of Theobald, freshman Joaquim Bila (Westbrook, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy), sophomore Trey Good (Marysville/Fairbanks), and senior Zach Murrey (Logan) was seventh.
