Junior first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) crushed a home run that brought Ohio Wesleyan within 2-1, but Wisconsin-River Falls held on for a win in the Bishops' season opener on Monday in Clermont, Fla.

In Monday's second game, Ohio Wesleyan wiped out a 2-0 deficit with a pair of runs in the fourth, but Macalester answered with the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth and held on for the win.

Wisconsin-River Falls took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a 2-run homer by Matti Renikow, but Anspach's solo shot in the sixth made it 2-1.

The Bishops got the tying run on base when junior catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) drew a 2-out walk, but Falcon pitcher Lindsey Duggan retired sophomore outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) on a foul out to complete a 3-hitter.

Junior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, scattering 5 hits and striking out 3 while walking 1.

Macalester also took a 2-0 lead on a 2-run homer, with Jessica Katzin connecting in the top of the second frame.

Ohio Wesleyan loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth when Anspach drew a one-out walk, sophomore first baseman Madison King (Mogadore) singled, and junior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) walked.  Sophomore Lauren Kunzler (Lancaster) followed with a single to second base, scoring Anspach, and the Bishops tied the score when sophomore outfielder Sophia Holupka (Hillsboro, Mo.), pinch-running for King, scored on a throwing error by centerfielder Renee Nicholson.

The Scots retook the lead in the top of the fifth as Nicholson beat out an infield single, stole second, moved to third on a single by Sophie Futchko, and scored on a single by Mandy Morrical.

The Bishops threatened in the bottom of the seventh.  Moore led off with an infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch.  Bias walked, and Panozzo forced Bias at second, leaving runners at the corners for junior third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark), but Macalester pitcher Kaitlyn Pistorius retired Back on a fly ball to end the game.

Kunzler was 2-for-3 for the Bishops.  Freshman righthander Makenna Knisley (Washington Court House/Washington) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan, striking out 4 and walking none.
