Softball Splits with Marywood, Carroll

Sophomore outfielder Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Ohio Wesleyan over Marywood on Tuesday in Clermont, Fla.

In Tuesday's first game, Carroll (Wis.) broke a 3-3 tie and scored the final 5 runs of the game to take the win.

Ohio Wesleyan took a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Marywood when junior first baseman Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) reached on a fielding error by Pacer rightfielder Abbey Stalter.  Perkins followed with a drive to right that Stalter misplayed, allowing Anspach to score.

Marywood evened the score in the sixth when Tori Para reached on a fielding error by sophomore first baseman Sophie Leohner (Columbus/Upper Arlington), moved to second on a sacrifice, and scored on a single by Ashdon Clark.

In the bottom of the sixth, Perkins singled with 2 down.  Junior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) followed with a single, and a throwing error by Pacer centerfielder Sam Baltrusaitis allowed Perkins to score.

Moore was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Junior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched the complete game, scattering 5 hits and fanning a career-high 10 while walking none.

Against Carroll (Wis.), the Bishops jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first on RBI singles by Anspach and Perkins.  The Pioneers answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning, with Reagan Goluch and Kaitlyn Reed contributing run-scoring hits.

Ohio Wesleyan evened the score in the second on a leadoff double by junior catcher Sara Bias (Sandusky/St. Mary's Central Catholic) and a single by Leohner.

Carroll retook the lead in the third on a double by Lauren Harshbarger, a passed ball, and an infield out, and added 4 runs in the fourth, highlighted by Harshbarger's 2-run single.

Leohner went 3-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan, while Perkins was 2-for-4.  Freshman righthander Makenna Knisely (Washington Court House/Washington) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
