Junior midfielder Sophia DelGallo (Braintree, Mass.) scored to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 11-10, but Oglethorpe withstood a potential game-tying possession and held on for a non-conference win on Tuesday in Atlanta.
The Stormy Petrels had taken a 10-7 lead on a free-position goal by Anna Ramsden with 9:41 left in regulation time.
Sophomore attacker Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) converted a free-position shot midway through the fourth quarter to bring the Bishops within 10-8, and freshman midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) converted a free-position shot just 31 seconds later to make it a 10-9 game.
Oglethorpe's Ally Moir scored with 4:22 left, but DelGallo answered with a score for an 11-10 count with 1:58 to play.
DelGallo won the ensuing draw and junior attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes) drew a foul from the Petrels' defense, but Klabus' free-position shot sailed high with 1:22 to go. The Bishops maintained possession and junior attacker Sophia Staples-Roy (Hopkinton, N.H.) got a look with :39 left, but Oglethorpe keeper Tori Perez made the save, and the Stormy Petrels were able to play out the clock.
Ohio Wesleyan took an early lead on goals by senior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) and freshman midfielder Sam Frary (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley Charter), but Oglethorpe countered with scores from Kaitlynn Alford and Makenna Bowens.
Fleming, DelGallo, and Trinh rang up goals for a 5-2 Bishop lead early in the second quarter, but the Stormy Petrels scored the next 7 goals, with Sydney Trammell and Ramsden each collecting 2, to take a 9-5 lead heading into the fourth period.
Trinh led the Bishops with 3 goals and 2 assists, while DelGallo and Fleming scored 2 goals apiece. Freshman Cadence Jobe (Pickerington/Central) had 4 saves in the Bishop goal.
