Freshman Kobe Francis (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River), freshman Rainer Holl (Williamstown, W.Va.), and junior Elliot Spicer (Newark) were double winners for Ohio Wesleyan in a non-conference win over Emerson on Thursday afternoon in Orlando, Fla.
In the Bishops' first match of the day, Illinois Wesleyan swept doubles play to take a 3-0 lead and held on for a non-conference win.
Against Emerson, Francis and junior Marcelo Aguilar (Columbus/Olentangy Liberty) recorded an 8-3 win over Leo Ishizuka and Pete Sevikul at No. 2 doubles. Francis then defeated Sevikul, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, at No. 2 singles.
Holl and Spicer teamed up for an 8-7 (7-3) decision over Daniel Kennedy and Noah Mesaros at No. 3 doubles. Spicer then topped Mesaros at No. 5 singles and Holl defeated Kennedy at No. 6 singles.
Senior José Mancilla (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Tecnologico de Monterrey) posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ishizuka at No. 4 singles to wrap up the Bishop scoring.
The Illinois Wesleyan match saw junior Mark Siriwanichkul (Bangkok, Thailand/St. Andrew International School) and Mancilla fall in a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles to Ian Turnbull and Carter Burk, 8-7 (8-6). Aguilar and Francis lost to Ryan McCoy and Evan Turnbull by an 8-6 count at No. 2 doubles, and Holl and Spicer dropped an 8-1 decision to Ben Vigneri and Zeke Cross at No. 3 doubles.
The tide turned in singles play, with Siriwanichkul defeating Ian Turnbull, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 and Aguilar winning a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Burk at No. 3.
Francis outlasted McCoy, 7-6 (7-1), 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) at No. 2 singles, and Holl came from behind for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) win at No. 6, but the Titans won at No. 4 and No. 5 to hold on for the win.
