Junior Mark Siriwanichkul (Bangkok, Thailand/St. Andrew International School), senior José Mancilla (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/Tecnologico de Monterrey), and freshman Rainer Holl (Williamstown, W.Va.) won singles matches as Ohio Wesleyan rallied from a 3-0 deficit to within 4-3, but Wisconsin-Superior held on for a non-conference win on Friday in Orlando, Fla.
The Yellowjackets swept the doubles competition, with Igor Chaves and Ren Kurachi defeating Mancilla and Siriwanichkul, 8-4, at No. 1; Vitor Sakakibara and Jacob Zacharias downing junior Marcelo Aguilar (Columbus/Olentangy Liberty) and freshman Kobe Francis (Boca Raton, Fla./Spanish River), 8-4, at No. 2; and Holl and junior Elliot Spicer (Newark) falling to Benedek Kaibas and Mateus Silvestre by an 8-1 count at No. 3.
Siriwanichkul opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kurachi at No. 1. Holl and Mancilla won their matchups in tiebreakers, with Holl winning, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7), over Mateo Abarca Pino at No. 6 and Mancilla coming from behind to defeat Kaibas by scores of 1-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (11-9) at No. 4 to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 4-3.
Wisconsin-Superior clinched the match when Zacharias defeated Aguilar, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) at No. 3 singles, and Francis' 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) decision over Sakakibara at No. 2 accounted for the 5-4 final.
