Bishops Down Kenyon in NCAC Opener

Junior midfielder Cooper Braet (Columbus/Upper Arlington) scored 2 goals and sophomore attacker Spencer Amacher (Blacksburg, Va./Blue Ridge School) had a goal and an assist during a game-ending 5-0 run that lifted Ohio Wesleyan over Kenyon in the North Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Saturday in Gambier.

The Bishops trailed, 8-5, after Kenyon's Jack Giuffre scored during the opening minute of the third quarter.

Braet tallied an unassisted goal midway through the third quarter, then scored again at the 4:48 mark of the period.

Amacher then fed senior attacker Vincent Leonardi (Hicksville, N.Y.) for a man-up goal to tie the score at 8 during the closing minutes of the third quarter, then scored the go-ahead goal off an assist by freshman attacker Will Siegenthaler (Elmhurst, Ill./York) midway through the fourth period.

Sophomore attacker Carson Geier (Milford/Milford) added an insurance goal with 5:23 remaining in regulation time.

Kenyon scored 3 times in a span of 44 seconds early in the first quarter, then got a goal from Rowan Goldin to take a 4-0 lead midway through the period.

Ohio Wesleyan opened the second quarter with scores by freshman midfielder Garrett Smith (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) and sophomore midfielder Malik Sillah (Bethesda, Md./Montgomery) to pull within 4-2, and the teams traded goals thrice for a 7-4 Kenyon lead at the intermission.

Amacher had 2 goals and an assist for Ohio Wesleyan, while Geier and Braet scored 2 goals apiece.  Sophomore goalkeeper Nathan George (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) went the distance in the Bishop crease, finishing with 10 saves.
