Junior shortstop Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) hit a 2-run homer to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 7-4, but Muskingum held off the rally and went on to a win in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday at Margaret Sagan Field.

In the nightcap, Muskingum's Madelyn Thomas fired a 3-hitter as the Muskies completed the sweep.

The opener saw Muskingum's Hannah Smith and Thomas keep Ohio Wesleyan batters in check, combining for 8 strikeouts. The Fighting Muskies jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after 4 innings of play with the help of a 2-run homer by Claire Guilliams and a 2-run double by Sarah Piteo.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, with the Bishops trailing 7-2, junior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) led off with a double and Anspach launched a 2-run homer over the center field fence to cut into the lead. But, it was not enough as Muskingum added 3 more runs in the top of the sixth to make the score 10-4.

Junior southpaw Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched 5 complete innings, racking up 5 strikeouts on the day, but was credited with the loss, giving up 6 earned runs on 8 hits.  She is now 3-3 on the year.

The second game showed little to no fireworks, as opposed to game number 1.  The Muskies scored 3 quick runs in the top of the second inning.  Neither team scored during the remainder of the contest.

Thomas tossed a 3-hit shutout, allowing only 6 Bishop hitters to reach base.  Freshman righthander Makenna Knisley (Washington Court House/Washington) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
