Wilmington 3, Ohio Wesleyan 0
Freshman catcher Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) collected 2 hits for Ohio Wesleyan, but a pair of Wilmington pitchers combined on a 6-hit shutout as the Quakers downed the Bishops in non-conference play on Sunday in Florence, Ky.
Wilmington pushed across a run in the top of the first when Tyler Shaneyfelt was hit by a pitch to open the game, stole second, and scored on Dominic Depa's 2-out single.
The Bishops had runners at the corners with one out in the third on singles by junior outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville) and sophomore outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome), but Quaker starter Aaron Boster retired senior shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) and senior outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) to get out of the inning.
The Quakers added some insurance in the eighth, collecting a hit and 2 walks and scoring runs on an infield out and a wild pitch.
Vitense went 2-for-4 for Ohio Wesleyan. Sophomore righthander Josh Ferreira (Raynham, Mass./Portsmouth Abbey (R.I.)) scattered 4 hits over the first 6.0 innings and was charged with the loss.
