Freshman righthander Parker Tomlin (Atlanta, Ga./Westerville (Ohio) Central) tossed 7.0 innings and recorded a season-high 7 strikeouts as Ohio Wesleyan got back in the win column with a 5-2 effort over Muskingum on Monday at Littick Field.
A throwing error by Muskingum catcher Allex Santacroce allowed junior first baseman Dillon Ysseldyke (Hilliard/Bradley) to score in the bottom of the second. The Muskies quickly responded in the third, as Dominic Gorence ripped an RBI single into right-center field, tying it up at one.
In the fourth with runners on the corners, sophomore third baseman Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius) broke the tie with a ground ball to second base, picking up an RBI.
Senior shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) kicked off the seventh inning with a bang as he hit a towering shot over the leftfield fence. This marks Neff's third long ball of the season.
After Muskingum narrowed the deficit to 3 runs in the eighth inning, junior righthander Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) closed the game in the ninth, collecting his second save on the year.
Tomlin's marquee outing earned him the win, bringing his season total to 4-2. He gave up 1 earned run on the day to go along with 3 hits and a lone walk.
Ysseldyke went 2-for-4 with 2 singles. Sophomore centerfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) walked 3 times in his 4 plate appearances.
