Mount Union 9, Ohio Wesleyan 5

Junior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) and sophomore first baseman Sophie Leohner (Columbus/Upper Arlington) plated runs as Ohio Wesleyan wiped out a 2-0 deficit, but Mount Union scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday in Alliance.

In the nightcap, junior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) crushed a bases-loaded double to bring the Bishops within 4-3, but the Purple Raiders pulled away for the win.

Mount Union took a 2-0 lead in the second as Kendyll Cahill lined an RBI triple and Alexis Temple walked and eventually came around to score.

In the fifth, junior third baseman Alyssa Back (Newark) beat out a bunt single and Cegledy followed with a double to make it a 2-1 game.  Moore led off the Bishop sixth with a double, sophomore outfielder Alyssa Perkins (Fredericktown) followed with a single, and Leohner singled home Moore to tie the game.  Ohio Wesleyan still had runners on first and second with nobody out, but Mount Union pitcher Cahill got out of the inning without any further damage.

The Purple Raiders got a one-out double from Cahill in the bottom of the seventh, and one out later, Taylor Gerback doubled in the winning run.

Leohner was 2-for-3 in the game, while Back, Cegledy, and Perkins each went 2-for-4.  Junior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched the complete game for Ohio Wesleyan.

Mount Union took the lead in the first inning of the nightcap on a triple by Faith Reicosky and a sacrifice fly from Sydney Mercer, and the Purple Raiders added 3 runs in the second with the help of an RBI double from Mackenzie Herman and an inside-the-park home run by Grace Heath.

Ohio Wesleyan loaded the bases with 2 out in the third.  Back once again started a 2-out rally, this time with a double, and Cegledy reached on an error by first baseman Ally Nittoli before junior shortstop Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) was hit by a pitch.  Moore promptly emptied the sacks with a double to left to close the margin to 4-3.

The Purple Raiders got one run back in the third on an RBI single by Gerback, then strung together 5 hits to score 3 more times in the fourth.

Moore was 2-for-3 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Chittum was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops.
