Sophomore attacker Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) set up 2 goals in a span of 98 seconds as Ohio Wesleyan opened up a 3-0 lead, and the Bishops pulled away during the third quarter for a North Coast Athletic Conference win over DePauw on Saturday in Greencastle, Ind.
Junior attacker Sophia Staples-Roy (Hopkinton, N.H.) put the Bishops on the scoreboard midway though the first quarter, courtesy of an assist from junior attacker Nicole Klabus (Delaware/Hayes).
Just 30 seconds later, Fleming found senior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) for a score, and just over a minute after that, it was Fleming to freshman midfielder Sam Frary (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley Charter) for a goal and a 3-0 Ohio Wesleyan lead.
DePauw closed to within 3-2 on scores by Emily Napier and Caleigh Claar, but Egan then rang up 3 straight scores, with 2 set up by freshman midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) and the third by Fleming. Goals by Fleming and Trinh stretched the margin to 8-2 after the third quarter, and Fleming added a pair of goals during the fourth period.
Fleming finished with 3 goals and 4 assists, while Egan scored 4 goals. Sophomore Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) was credited with 14 saves.
