A first-inning, 2-run homer and RBI single by Adrian kick-started a hot day for the Bulldog hitters as they beat Ohio Wesleyan 8-1 in the first game of a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday at Margaret Sagan Field.

Adrian pitcher Abbi Patton threw a complete game, giving up only 1 earned run to go along with 5 strikeouts.  Sophomore righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) pitched 5.2 innings, surrendering 3 earned runs, for the Bishops.  Junior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.

Ohio Wesleyan scored in the sixth on singles by sophomore outfielder Avery Panozzo (Denver, Colo./Mullen) and junior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) and a fielder's choice off the bat of junior shortstop Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman).

In the second matchup, the Bulldogs picked up right where they left off, beating the Bishops in a shutout.  A 5-run second inning showing from Adrian broke the game open early.

Cegledy made the most of her at-bats, going 2-for-3.  Bulldog shortstop Karson Bagelmann went 4-4 with a double and a triple. Her triple came at the end of the Bulldogs' 5-run second inning.

Rodriguez pitched another 5.2 innings, giving up 2 runs while striking out 4.  She came on in relief for freshman righthander Makenna Knisley (Washington Court House/Washington), who tossed 1.1 innings.  Knisley was credited with the loss.  Adrian's Macee Schang tossed a 4-hit shutout, racking up 8 strikeouts.
