Senior shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) crushed a solo homer to give Ohio Wesleyan an early lead, but Wittenberg scored the next 14 runs of the game and went on to complete a sweep of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday in Springfield.
In the opener, sophomore outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) knocked in a run to bring the Bishops within 2-1, but the Tigers scored the next 11 runs, highlighted by Ian Ash's walk-off grand slam.
Wittenberg took the lead on Ben Seibert's 2-run double in the bottom of the first inning of the opener.
The Bishops closed to within 2-1 in the third when sophomore third baseman Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius) led off with a walk, junior outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville) followed with a double down the leftfield line, and Stoner plated Brazytis with an infield out.
The Tigers added to the lead as Ash knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly in the third, doubled in a run during the hosts' 2-run fourth frame, and singled in a run during a 2-run sixth inning. Wittenberg ended the game with 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh, with Matt Moore driving in a run on a sacrifice fly before the Tigers reloaded the bases and Ash launched a grand slam to right center to cap a 7-RBI outing.
Junior righthander Andy Anthony (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Bishops. Wittenberg's Nick Cunningham finished with a 3-hitter.
In the nightcap, Neff put the Bishops ahead with a bomb to leftfield.
Wittenberg answered with RBI singles by Moore and Seibert in the bottom of the inning, then erupted for 9 runs in the bottom of the second, highlighted by a grand slam by Conor O'Malley.
Junior righthander Jason Monos (Amherst/Steele) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan. Wittenberg's Michael Osmond and Carson Rengel combined on a 3-hitter.
