Junior outfielder Edrick Padilla (Salinas, P.R./Perkiomen (Pa.) School) smashed a 3-run homer to cap a 6-run second inning that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead for good in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday at Littick Field.

In the nightcap, Padilla's bases-clearing double capped a 4-run fourth frame that put the Bishops ahead to stay as Ohio Wesleyan completed the sweep.

The Bishops took the lead in the bottom of the first inning of the opener as sophomore outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) singled, senior shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) doubled, and junior first baseman Dillon Ysseldyke (Hilliard/Bradley) plated a run with an infield out before run-scoring singles by Padilla and freshman catcher Alex Snyder (Massillon/Jackson).

Capital countered with 4 runs in the second, highlighted by a 2-run single by Kielan LaMarr.

Ohio Wesleyan responded with 6 runs in the bottom of the inning, opening the inning with singles by freshman catcher Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.), Stoner, and Neff before an Ysseldyke single tied the game at 4, with another run scoring on a throwing error by Comet first baseman Ryne McKinney before a run-scoring single by junior outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville).  Padilla followed with a blast down the rightfield line for a 9-4 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

The Bishops pulled away with 5 runs in the fourth, with Vitense delivering a 2-run single and Padilla plating a run with a sacrifice fly.

Neff went 3-for-3, Stoner was 4-for-5 with 2 RBI, Vitense was 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, and Padilla went 2-for-3 with 5 RBI.  Freshman righthander Parker Tomlin (Atlanta, Ga./Westerville (Ohio) Central) worked the first 5.0 innings, striking out 7 and walking 3, to record the win.

Ohio Wesleyan again struck for 3 runs in the first inning of the nightcap, with Neff and senior outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) lining RBI doubles and Stefancin singling home a run.

The Comets tied the score with 3 runs in the second and took the lead on an RBI single by McKinney in the third.

With the score tied at 5, Ohio Wesleyan talied 4 times in the bottom of the fourth, loading the bases on a double by Stoner, an intentional walk to Neff, and a Snyder hit by pitch.  After Stoner scored on a passed ball, Stefancin was hit by a pitch to refill the bases before Padilla emptied them with a drive down the rightfield line.

Stefancin was 3-for-3, Stoner and Neff each went 2-for-3, and Padilla knocked in 3 runs.  Freshman righthander Hank Holman (Twinsburg) pitched the first 4.0 innings to record the win.
