Melenu, Theobald, Walker Win for Men's Track & Field

Freshman Chinedu Melenu (Bowie, Md.), sophomore Trey Theobald (Archbold) and senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) won events for Ohio Wesleyan at the Big Red Invitational, hosted by Denison University on Friday in Granville.

The meet was not scored.

Melenu won the triple jump with a mark of 40-4¾ and added a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.

Theobald won the javelin with a throw of 160-0 and added a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash.  Theobald also teamed with junior Dylan Liggett (Medina/Highland), sophomore Trey Good (Marysville/Fairbanks), and freshman Joaquim Bila (Westbrook, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) for a third-place finish in the 400-meter relay.

Walker won the hammer with a throw of 166-10.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Antonio Sonego (Medina), who finished second in the discus and sixth in the shot put; sophomore Mason Myers (Perrysville/Hillsdale), who was third in the triple jump and sixth in the 400-meter dash and the long jump; senior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), who finished third in the 400-meter dash and eighth in the 200-meter dash; sophomore Wes Horton (Columbus/Thomas Worthington), who was third in the 800-meter run; sophomore Preston Pethtel (Heath), who finished third in the 3000-meter run; freshman Griffin Sawyer (Rocky River), who placed fourth in the pole vault; freshman Andrew Bentz (Marysville), who was fourth in the shot put; senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who finished fifth in the hammer and eighth in the discus; sophomore Thurman Hou (Temple City, Calif./La Salle College Preparatory), who finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles; senior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who was fifth in the pole vault; sophomore Simon Leck (Toledo/St. Francis DeSales), who placed fifth in the 800-meter run; freshman Xavier Platt (Fredericktown), who finished fifth in the 1500-meter run; Bila, who was sixth in the 100-meter dash; senior Zach Murrey (Logan), who finished sixth in the 200-meter dash; junior Evan Miller (Wooster), who was sixth in the 800-meter run; sophomore Kory Kaiser (Cincinnati/West Clermont), who finished sixth in the 3000-meter run; freshman Jake Marzulli (Medina), who placed seventh in the 400-meter dash; sophomore Andrew Williamson (Heath), who was seventh in the 3000-meter run; and freshman Eric Schneiter (New London), who finished eighth in the shot put.

The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of Murrey, Leck, freshman Connor Skidmore (Bellefontaine), and Pethtel placed second.
