Sturts Places in NCAC Decathlon

Senior Clay Sturts (Lexington) placed in the decathlon at the North Coast Athletic Conference multi-event meet, hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday and Sunday in Oberlin.

Sturts finished seventh with 4880 points.  Freshman Mack Fincham (Springfield/Kenton Ridge) also represented Ohio Wesleyan, finishing 10th with 4458 points.

Sturts closed out Sunday's competition with his highest point total of the day, picking up 549 points with a 5:01.81 and a third-place showing in the 1500-meter run.  He tied for third in the pole vault, clearing 11-11¾ for 522 points, and placed fourth in the javelin, with his throw of 130-10 good for 440 points.  Sturts opened Saturday with the second-best time in the 100-meter dash, finishing in :11.47 to collect 759 points.  He scored 598 more points with a :55.03 in the 400-meter dash and 512 additional markers with an 18-6½ in the long jump.

Fincham opened Sunday by racking up 711 points in the 110-meter hurdles, with his time of :16.19 the third-best of the day.  He added 393 points in the pole vault, clearing 10-4, and recorded 387 points in the javelin with a throw of 118-8.  On Saturday, Fincham tied for second overall in the high jump, clearing 6-0 to record 653 points.  His time of :12.44 in the 100-meter dash was good for 567 points, and Fincham added 441 more points with a 17-4¾ in the long jump.

With the seventh-place finishes, Ohio Wesleyan collects 2 points that will carry over to the NCAC championship meet, scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the George Gauthier Track and Selby Stadium. .
