Junior shortstop Rylee Anspach (Dublin/Coffman) singled home what proved to be the deciding run and junior lefthander Katie Chittum (Hebron/Lakewood) pitched a complete-game victory as Ohio Wesleyan defeated Wooster in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday at Wooster.

In the nightcap, 3 Wooster pitchers combined on a 5-hit shutout as the Scots salvaged a split.

Ohio Wesleyan took the lead in the second inning of the opener as junior outfielder Rylie Moore (Noblesville, Ind.) singled with one out, took second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a single by sophomore outfielder Abigail Perkins (Fredericktown), and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore first baseman Sophie Leohner (Columbus/Upper Arlington).

Anspach singled home a run in the third to make it 2-0, and junior second baseman Sophia Cegledy (Pataskala/Bishop Hartley) added an RBI single in the fifth for a 3-0 Bishop lead.

Stephanie Griffin-Sanchez homered in the bottom of the fifth to account for the 3-1 final.

Chittum scattered 8 hits, struck out 4, and walked 1.

Wooster took the lead in the nightcap with RBI doubles by Cate Barkdoll in the first and fourth innings, and added a run-scoring double by Addie Tagg and a 2-run double by Emma Hetkey in the fifth.

The Bishops got runners to third base during the third, fifth, and seventh innings, but stranded the runner each time.

Sophomore righthander Kaelyn Rodriguez (South El Monte, Calif.) was the starting and losing pitcher for Ohio Wesleyan.
