Senior shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) drove in 5 runs and Ohio Wesleyan pounded out 25 hits in a win over Hiram in the opener of a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday in Hiram.

In the nightcap, freshman catcher Alex Snyder (Massillon/Jackson) singled home the tying run in the top of the ninth as the Bishops evened the game at 10, but the Terriers pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the inning to escape with a split.

Ohio Wesleyan raced to a 10-0 lead in the opener, with junior first baseman Dillon Ysseldyke (Hilliard/Bradley) singling home a run during a 2-run first, Neff crushing a grand slam during a 5-run second, and Snyder and senior outfielder Max Pershin (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech College Prep) adding run-scoring singles during a 3-run fourth.

Hiram rallied with 3 runs in the fourth and 3 more in the fifth, with Chaisson Marrs doubling home a run in the fourth and Alec Bennet singling in a run in the fifth.

The Bishops put the game away with 5 runs in the top of the ninth, stringing together 7 hits, including RBI singles from Neff, freshman catcher Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.), Ysseldyke, and sophomore third baseman Noah Brazytis (Euclid/Cleveland St. Ignatius).

Neff was 2-for-6 with 5 RBI.  Ysseldyke went 4-for-6 with 2 RBI, sophomore outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) and Brazytis each were 3-for-5, and Pershin finished the game at 3-for-3.  Sophomore righthander Joe Liss (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was credited with the win in relief.

Junior outfielder Ryan Stefancin (Cleveland/North Ridgeville) led off the nightcap with a home run, and Stoner singled home 2 runs to cap a 4-run fourth frame that gave the Bishops a 5-0 lead.

The Terriers tied the game with 3 runs in the fourth, getting RBI doubles from Bennett and Logan Gallentine along the way, and 2 more in the fifth on a single by Mike Midea.  Hiram added 4 runs in the seventh, taking advantage of a pair of Bishop errors.

Ohio Wesleyan rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth on a 2-run double from Ysseldyke and an RBI single by Snyder.

In the bottom of the ninth, sophomore lefthander Mike Franckhauser (Delaware/Buckeye Valley) fanned Gallentine for the first out, but Kyle Adams reached on an error by second baseman Vitense, and a walk to Marrs and a single by Michael Corsillo filled the bases before Connor Bansek singled in the winning run.

Vitense went 4-for-5 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI.  Sophomore catcher Tyler Monaco (Centerville/South Mecklenburg (N.C.)) was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.  Franckhauser was charged with the loss in relief.
