T4th of 9 at Marv Frye Invitational
Senior VaShawn Walker (Columbus/Bishop Hartley) and sophomore Wes Horton (Columbus/Thomas Worthington) recorded Ohio Wesleyan's best individual finishes in leading the Bishops at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track and Selby Stadium.
Case Reserve won the meet with 193 points to 129 for Denison. Baldwin Wallace finished third with 114 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg (70), Kenyon (52), Heidelberg (43), Mount St. Joseph (34), and Muskingum (6).
Walker finished second in the hammer with a throw of 160-7, while Horton placed second in the 800-meter run in 1:57.15.
Other standouts for the Bishops included freshman Chinedu Melenu (Bowie, Md.), who placed third in the triple jump; sophomore Trey Theobald (Archbold), who finished third in the javelin; sophomore Mason Myers (Perrysville/Hillsdale), who was fourth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump; freshman Mack Fincham (Springfield/Kenton Ridge), who finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles; junior Antonio Sonego (Medina), who was fourth in the discus; senior Jayden Byfield-Ramirez (Washington, D.C./Wilson), who finished fourth in the hammer; sophomore Coleman Kegler (Columbus/Upper Arlington), who was fourth in the javelin; senior Wyatt Wells (Marion/Pleasant), who placed seventh in the pole vault; senior Jacob Bauer (Hilliard/Davidson), who was eighth in the 400-meter dash; senior Clay Sturts (Lexington), who finished eighth in the pole vault; and senior Alex Reidell (Centerville), who placed eighth in the hammer.
The Ohio Wesleyan 1600-meter relay team of Myers, Bauer, freshman Jake Marzulli (Medina), and Theobald placed third, while the Bishop 400-meter relay team of freshman Joaquim Bila (Westbrook, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy), Myers, sophomore Trey Good (Marysville/Fairbanks), and Theobald finished fifth.
The Marv Frye Invitational honors the late Battling Bishop mentor, who coached the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team from 1961-97. Frye also coached men's cross country, women's track & field, and women's cross country during his time at Ohio Wesleyan, and remained active in the central Ohio track & field community for many years after his retirement.
