Women's Track & Field Finishes Second at Marv Frye Invite

Sophomore Aliisa James (Miamisburg/Dayton Christian), freshman Coral Pierson (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), senior Lauren Montgomery (Newark/Licking Valley), senior Ari McPheters (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley), and freshman Emily Davis (Brimfield/Mogadore Field) won events for Ohio Wesleyan at the Marv Frye Invitational, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday at the George Gauthier Track and Selby Stadium.

Case Reserve won the meet with 170 points to 165 for Ohio Wesleyan.  Wittenberg was third with 125 points, followed by Baldwin Wallace (93), Denison (67), Kenyon (27), Heidelberg (26), and Mount St. Joseph (21).

James won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:05.91 and added a fourth in the long jump and a sixth in the 100-meter hurdles.

Pierson won the 100-meter hurdles in :15.30 and placed seventh in the 200-meter dash.

Montgomery won the 3000-meter steeplechase in 12:50.35.

McPheters won the shot put with a throw of 44-5½.

Davis won the discus with a throw of 125-5.

Other standouts for the Bishops included junior Addystin Lykins (Carey), who placed second in the 200-meter dash and third in the 400-meter dash; junior Sammy Maglott (Fredericktown), who was second in the 3000-meter steeplechase; senior Khloe Dubenion (Columbus/Academy), who placed second in the hammer; senior Peyton Howell (Canton/GlenOak), who finished second in the high jump; junior Cameron Rogers (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard South), who finished third in the pole vault; senior Veronica Hardman (Blenheim, New Zealand/Ravenswood), who placed third in the long jump; senior Madison Manns (Kenton/Bellefontaine Logan), who was third in the high jump; freshman Hazel Jolliff (Cardington/Cardington-Lincoln), who placed fourth in the javelin and fifth in the 400-meter hurdles; junior Ireland Nowak (Thousand Oaks, Calif.), who finished fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump; sophomore Katelyn Stapleton (Urbana/West Liberty Salem), who was fifth in the 800-meter run; freshman Celeste Swihart (Fredericktown), who finished fifth in the pole vault; junior Ava Klann (Dublin/Coffman), who was seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the high jump; freshman McKenna Downing (Pleasant Hill/Newton Local), who placed seventh in the 800-meter run; freshman Marissa Siegel (Blacklick/Pataskala Licking Heights), who was seventh in the javelin; senior Gabby Stefanka (Marion/Elgin), who finished eighth in the hammer; and junior Jocelyn Weaver (Hudson), who was eighth in the javelin.

The Ohio Wesleyan 400-meter relay team of Pierson, James, junior Liberty Brock (Zanesville/New Concord John Glenn), and Lykins placed second, and the 1600-meter relay team of Brown, Stapleton, Downing, and Lykins finished third.

The Marv Frye Invitational honors the late Battling Bishop mentor, who coached the Ohio Wesleyan men's track & field team from 1961-97.  Frye also coached men's cross country, women's track & field, and women's cross country during his time at Ohio Wesleyan, and remained active in the central Ohio track & field community for many years after his retirement.
