Ohio Wesleyan University freshman Zane Vitense (Maple Grove, Minn.) received a special award as part of the All-North Coast Athletic Conference baseball teams, it was announced today by the NCAC.
Vitense was named Newcomer of the Year and was a second-team All-NCAC choice as a designated hitter. Vitense is the seventh Ohio Wesleyan player to receive NCAC Newcomer of the Year recognition.
Sophomore outfielder Sammy Stoner (Dublin/Jerome) also was a second-team All-NCAC selection. Senior shortstop D.J. Neff (Grove City) was a third-team all-league choice.
Vitense ranks third in the conference in batting with a .418 average. He hit one home run and drove in 28 runs and led the Bishops with a .465 on-base percentage.
Stoner ranks 13th in the NCAC in batting with a .372 average and is sixth in the conference with 15 stolen bases. He drove in 16 runs and set a school season record for putouts by an outfielder with 128.
Neff is tied for 10th in the league with 5 home runs. He batted .348 and drove in 26 runs.
Ohio Wesleyan finished with a 18-21 overall record. The Battling Bishops finished in sixth place in the NCAC standings with a 5-11 mark.
