at NCAA Division III championship
Senior Khloe Dubenion (Columbus/Academy), senior Peyton Howell (Canton/GlenOak), and senior Ari McPheters (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) will represent Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III championship meet, to be hosted by St. John Fisher University from Thursday, May 25, through Saturday, May 27, in Rochester, N.Y., it was announced by the NCAA.
Howell will compete in the high jump, scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday. McPheters will compete in the preliminaries of the shot put, scheduled for 4 p.m. on Friday. Dubenion will compete in the preliminaries of the hammer, scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Dubenion is seeded 22nd in the hammer with a school-record throw of 172-8, that coming at the All-Ohio championship meet on April 15. Dubenion won All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in the hammer with a third-place finish at the NCAC championship on May 6. This will be Dubenion's first NCAA Division III outdoor championship competition.
Howell is tied for the No. 18 seed with a height of 5-5¾, that coming at the NCAC championship meet on May 6 and good for Howell's third consecutive conference title. This will be Howell's second straight NCAA Division III outdoor championship competition. Howell won All-America honors in the high jump with a fifth-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division III outdoor championship meet. Howell also won All-America honors with a third-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Division III indoor championship meet.
McPheters is seeded fifth in the shot put with a school-record throw of 48-7¼, that coming at the Baldwin Wallace Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet on May 12. McPheters won the NCAC shot put title at the NCAC championship meet on May 5, the second conference championship for the Bishop senior. This will be McPheters' second straight NCAA Division III championship appearance. Last year, McPheters finished 17th nationally in the shot put.
The finals of the hammer and shot put will be contested after the conclusion of the preliminaries, with the top finishers in the preliminaries advancing to the finals in each event.
