Senior Ari McPheters (Reynoldsburg/Bishop Hartley) finished 11th nationally in the shot put while representing Ohio Wesleyan at the NCAA Division III championship meet, hosted by St. John Fisher University on Friday in Rochester, N.Y.
McPheters recorded a throw of 42-7 on the first attempt, then improved upon that with a mark of 42-9 on the second throw. McPheters came through with a throw of 45-6½ on the third attempt, but did not advance to the finals and finished 11th in the final national standings, improving upon the 17th-place finish of last year.
McPheters was seeded fifth in the shot put with a school-record throw of 48-7¼.
The NCAA Division III championship meet concludes on Saturday, with senior Khloe Dubenion (Columbus/Academy) scheduled to compete in the hammer. The preliminaries of the hammer are to start at 10 a.m., with the top 9 finishers advancing to the finals.
