Denison 13, Ohio Wesleyan 7
Freshman midfielder Tiffany Trinh (Dublin/Scioto) converted a free-position shot to bring Ohio Wesleyan within 7-5, but Denison opened the second half with a 4-0 run and went on to a win in a North Coast Athletic Conference tournament semifinal game on Wednesday in Granville.
Ohio Wesleyan took an early lead on a goal by sophomore attacker Caroline Fleming (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette), but the Big Red answered with a score from Maddie Morrell less than a minute later, then closed out the first quarter with goals by Josie Lucchesi and Allaire Kotz.
Senior attacker Grace Egan (Ridgefield, Conn.) kicked off the second quarter with a score to bring the Bishops within 3-2, but the Big Red scored the next 3 goals, getting scores from Kotz, Bridget Sheehy, and Anna DeVuono.
Fleming ended that Denison run with a goal, and freshman midfielder Sam Frary (Concord, Calif./Clayton Valley Charter) added a score before Trinh's 8-meter goal with 1:49 left in the half made it a 7-5 game.
Lucchesi, DeVuono, and Morrell scored goals during the third quarter for Denison, and DeVuono added a goal during the fourth quarter to give the Big Red an 11-5 lead.
Fleming led the Bishops with 3 goals. Sophomore Abby Markowitz (Las Vegas, Nev./Somerset Academy) was credited with 14 saves.
Freshman defender Abbie Grogan (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) and senior defender Sarah Hanley (Farmington, Mich.) represented the Bishops on the all-tournament team.
